Expertise required: JUNOS routing and switching, JNCIE preferred
Primary Responsibilities
Objective:
Strengthen technical bench for NNO engineering for ongoing infrastructure support of NNO Applications. Current applications are Internet Router, IMS NEC, FES-V/MPN, NNI, Route Reflector, NSC and Super Core convergence.
Program Details:
- RE's will work with NNO Engineering to support applications per above
- NNO's RE will assist with MOP/SOP Development, Integration Plans and Related Support (Maintenance Windows)
- Juniper/Verizon Wireless is in the process of deploying New Internet Routers and we expect to be deploying Route Reflectors later this year (2012)
Secondary Responsibilities
Problem Statement:
The rapid application deployment plans and consistent moving timelines/requirements are creating challenges for Juniper and Verizon Wireless implementation Teams. SE's are covering Maintenance Windows and are spread very thin.
Additional RE Responsibilities/Deliverables:
- Assisting JTAC with open JTAC cases.
- Acting as a technical liaison with Juniper Networks Customer Service and Engineering groups
- Development and maintenance of fault diagnosis procedures to support effective fault resolution
- Development and maintenance of network operational support procedures related to the Juniper Networks products
- Assessing the health of a network
- The preparation of equipment configurations and validation of configurations for new installations, changes within the network, software upgrades etc
- Network related testing to ensure that the Juniper Networks products operate correctly
- Implementation, integration & migration planning
- Validation testing of the Juniper Networks products
- Troubleshooting of network issues
- Ongoing, informal, knowledge transfer
- Submission of problem reports
- Advice and demonstration if necessary, of new software and hardware features

Location: Milwaukee, WI
Duration: 6+ Months
Required: JUNOS, Juniper MX/ QFabric, EX, SA/SSG/SRX/NSM, MPLS, QOS
Northwestern Mutual has been a Juniper customer on the security side (SA/SSG/SRX/NSM) for five+ years. On the networking side, they've been using Juniper access/aggregation solutions (EX) for three years & are in the process of deploying Juniper equipment for their core network, data center & edge solutions (MX/QFabric). This RE position will have key role in ensuring the success of the aforementioned networking projects as they role into production in early 2013. This RE position will be two-thirds design/build & one-third run/operations.
• Understanding of the concepts and guidelines behind traditional routing or security system design (depending on requirements). Will be asked to provide internal and external guidance on key customer networking & security issues.
• Detailed understanding of routing protocols including: TCP/IP fundamentals, IP sub-netting, super-netting and hierarchical routing principles, routing protocol operation with traffic engineering (OSPF, BGP), general understanding of MPLS L2 and L3 VPNs and the associated tunneling technologies (GRE, IPsec, etc.), network/router security and common/best practices.
• Strong understanding of: IPSec VPNs, DNS, HTTP/HTTPS, TCP/IP, UDP, and ARP.
• Strong understanding of Layer 2 protocols and technologies including: Ethernet, 802.3ad, STP, etc.

Describe the network environment and name the products that will be supported:
The ideal candidate will have detailed knowledge of Juniper MX Series Routers. (MX960, MX480) and subscriber management protocols (PPPoE, DHCP, RADIUS, DHCPv6) and basic knowledge of service provider routing protocols (OSPF, ISIS, BGP, MPLS, RSVP and LDP).
Describe the Ideal candidate's strengths and experiences:
- Expert level relationship management, communications skills and interpersonal skills to manage face to face communications on a daily basis with multiple levels of customer management and engineering staff across multiple departments within the host company in a responsible and professional fashion.
- The engineer assuming this role will need to be aware of and sensitive to the operational impact of technical recommendations.
- Customer Culture – Most of the engineers in the customer operations group have over ten years' experience with a variety of vendors and have a lot of breadth if not depth. The staff engineers have both breadth and depth and have high expectations from their vendor representatives. The engineer assuming this role can expect to be treated as an equal part of a close-knit team. An individual with a friendly, casual demeanor would be ideal for this role.

Duration: 6+ months
1. Internal Juniper employee who is working in, or recently worked in, JTAC with MX focus.
2. Internal Juniper employee who has worked in JTAC (supporting MX) but has been out of that role for 1-2 years max and continues to work with Juniper engineering staff (i.e. someone from SysTest).
3. External candidate who previously (within the last 2 years) worked for Juniper in TAC supporting MX. Preferably someone still working with Juniper products.
These are the 'must haves':
- Solid MX product experience
- Experience with MPLS-TE (Traffic Engineering)
At a very minimum this candidate must have experience with MPLS-TE on another vendor's product (i.e. Cisco).

Describe the network environment and name the products that will be supported:
This is a highly technical role that provides post-sales, on-site and potentially on-call support of Juniper Networks products for one of the country's largest Cable Service Provider. The ideal candidate for this role must have a detailed understanding of protocols used for IP based service provider networks and be able to demonstrate technical expertise in the configuration, troubleshooting and operation of IP based routers and include hands-on operation of management tools and network analyzers. It requires excellent customer interface skills, including both written and verbal.
Required Skills Experience:
- 10+ years design, implementation, and operational experience in large scale IP networks.
- JUNOS
- Understanding of Juniper hardware – e.g., MX, EX and SRX
- Work experience at a large Service Provider

Responsibilities
- Support design and planning of Juniper MX, EX and T Series network routing products within the Customer infrastructure.
- Support ongoing efforts in defining best practice policies for Juniper product applications used by Customer.
- Partner with other internal employees performing similar resident engineering roles where lessons learned may help minimize risk associated with major network upgrades or changes in the network.
- hold design and information gathering workshops with the customer to understand the customer's existing network design and technical requirements.
- understand the customer's organizational structure and become familiar with the customer's network implementation and support processes and procedures.
- carry out testing of new features and functionality required by the customer in a laboratory environment and to implement and verify that they are operating correctly in the live network.
- Test patches and fixes to operating software and to ensure that they are implemented and functioning correctly in the live network.
- Troubleshoot equipment and network problems and to open and track JTAC cases through to problem resolution.
- Hold technology workshops with the customer to discuss equipment and network problems, and to provide case status updates, including the reasons for any problems encountered and the workarounds and/or solutions that are being tried.
- Train the customer's design, implementation and support personnel to configure and operate the Juniper Networks products.
- Assist the customer to develop Network Operating and Equipment Operating Procedures.
- hold design and information gathering workshops with the Customer to understand the Customers existing network design and technical requirements of new network designs.
- Raise equipment Return Material Authorizations (RMAs) and to track these through to problem resolution
- Produce a written summary report of the status of Design projects, equipment and network problems on a regular basis to the Customer.
