Earthquake : Are you prepared ?

What to do during an earthquake?
Drop
Cover
Hold
Evacuate
Once the tremor stops
When initial tremors are experienced drop to the floor, take cover and hold until tremors stop.
Start evacuation once tremors stops to avoid mishaps caused by aftershocks that can be more severe than the earthquake itself.
IF INDOORS
§ DROP to the ground
§ Take COVER under a table or other sturdy piece of furniture.
§ HOLD ON until the shaking stops. If there isn't a table or desk near you, cover your face and head with your arms and crouch near an inner corner of the building.
§ Stay inside until the shaking stops and it is safe to go outside. Research has shown that most injuries occur when people inside buildings attempt to move to a different location inside the building or try to leave during the earthquake.
§ Be aware that the power supply may be shut off or the sprinkler systems or fire alarms may turn on.
IF OUTDOORS
§ Stay in an open area until tremors stop.
§ Move away from buildings, streetlights, and utility wires.
§ Once in the open, stay there until the tremors stop.
EARTHQUAKE DO'S & DONT'S
Do not run if you are in a structurally sound building, stay put.
If you are inside an old or weak structure, take the fastest and safest way out.
Do not use elevators.

Do not stand close to power lines, posts, walls, false ceiling, parapet, falling flower pots and other elements that may fall or collapse.
Stay away from buildings with glass panes.
Do not stand on a steep hillside; move away in case of landslides and falling rocks.
When driving a vehicle pull to the side of the road and stop.
Do not attempt to cross bridges/ flyovers, which may have been damaged.
Cover your head and body with your arms, books, etc. to protect yourself from falling objects.
