Don’t just have career or academic goals. Set goals to give you a balanced, successful life. I use the word balanced before successful. Balanced means ensuring your health, relationships, mental peace are all in good order.


There is no point of getting a promotion on the day of your breakup. There is no fun in driving a car if your back hurts. Shopping is not enjoyable if your mind is full of tensions.


"Life is one of those races in nursery school where you have to run with a marble in a spoon kept in your mouth. If the marble falls, there is no point coming first. Same is with life where health and relationships are the marble. Your striving is only worth it if there is harmony in your life. Else, you may achieve the success, but this spark, this feeling of being excited and alive, will start to die. ……………….


One thing about nurturing the spark - don't take life seriously. Life is not meant to be taken seriously, as we are really temporary here. We are like a pre-paid card with limited validity. If we are lucky, we may last another 50 years. And 50 years is just 2,500 weekends. Do we really need to get so worked up? …………….


It's ok, bunk a few classes, scoring low in couple of papers, goof up a few interviews, take leave from work, fall in love, little fights with your spouse. We are people, not programmed devices........." smile

Why do we shout in anger?

This one is a lovely story and you should read it….. A good one too……


I am sure you will like it.

A saint asked his disciples, 'Why do we shout in anger? Why do people shout at each other when they are upset?'


Disciples thought for a while, one of them said, 'Because we lose our calm, we shout for that.'

'But, why to shout when the other person is just next to you?' asked the saint. 'Isn't it possible to speak to him or her with a soft voice? Why do you shout at a person when you're angry?'

Disciples gave some other answers but none satisfied the saint.


Finally he explained, 'When two people are angry at each other, their hearts distance a lot. To cover that distance they must shout to be able to hear each other. The angrier they are, the stronger they will have to shout to hear each other through that great distance.'


Then the saint asked, 'What happens when two people fall in love? They don't shout at each other but talk softly, why? Because their hearts are very close. The distance between them is very small...'


The saint continued, 'When they love each other even more, what happens?


They do not speak, only whisper and they get even closer to each other in their love. Finally they even need not whisper, they only look at each other and that's all. That is how close two people are when they love each other.'

MORAL: When you argue do not let your hearts get distant, do not say words that distance each other more, else there will come a day when the distance is so great that you will not find the path to return.

விழுந்த காரணம் என்ன? அளவுக்கு அதிகமான சம்பளம், போனஸ் (அதாவது கோடிக்கணக்கில்) என்று கொடுத்து எடுக்கப்பட்ட எம்.பி.ஏ., இளைஞர்களுக்கு கொடுக்கப்பட்ட கட்டளைகள், என்ன செய்தாவது கம்பெனியின் வருமானத்தை உயர்த்துங்கள் என்று. ஆதலால் பலருக்கு ஏதாவது செய்தாவது லாபத்தை கூட்ட வேண்டும் என்ற எண்ணங்கள், செயல்பாடுகள்.அதில் ஒன்று தான் நிதி ஆதாரம் அதிகம் இல்லாதவர்களுக்குக் கூட அதிகப்படியான வீட்டுக் கடன்களை வாரி வழங்கியது. வட்டி மிகவும் குறைந்திருந்த போது வாங்கிய அளவுக்கு அதிகமான கடன்கள் பின்னர் வட்டி கூடிய போது வட்டி கூட கட்ட முடியாத ஒரு சூழ்நிலை.வீடுகளின் விலை வேறு குறைய ஆரம்பித்தது. உலகளவில் இந்தக் கம்பெனிகள் முதலீடு செய்திருந்த முதலீடுகளும் பங்குச் சந்தையின் பாதிப்பால் மதிப்பு குறைய ஆரம்பித்தன. நஷ்டங்கள் லட்சக்கணக்கான கோடிகளில்.கடன்கள் திரும்பி வராமல் போனதால் வங்கிகளுக்கும், வீட்டுக் கடன் நிறுவனங்களுக்கும் மிகப்பெரிய நஷ்டம். ஆதலால், கொடுத்த கடன்கள் திரும்ப வராததால் பல வீட்டுக் கடன் நிறுவனங்களும், நூற்றுக்கணக்கான வங்கிகளும் திவாலாகி வந்தன.



எப்படி திரும்ப எழுந்தது?திரும்ப எழ காரணம், அரசாங்கங்களின் ஒத்துழைப்பு தான். பல நிறுவனங்களுக்கும், வங்கிகளுக்கும் பல லட்சம் கோடிகள் பண உதவி செய்து அந்த கஷ்டமான சூழ்நிலையிலிருந்து மீள வழிவகை செய்தது. எல்லோருடைய ஒருங்கிணைந்த முயற்சி தான், விரைவில் மீண்டெழுந்ததற்கான காரணம். அதனால், பல நிறுவனங்கள் தப்பின.இருந்தாலும், நூற்றுக்கணக்கான நிறுவனங்கள் காணாமல் போயின. இதில் நூறாண்டுகள் கழிந்த நிறுவனங்களும் அடங்கும்.இது தவிர மக்களும் தங்களது வாயைக் கட்டி, வயிற்றை கட்டி இருந்ததும் ஒரு காரணம். அதாவது, அந்த கஷ்டமான சூழ்நிலையில் பெரிய செலவு ஏதும் செய்யாமல் இருந்தனர். கம்பெனிகளும் தங்கள் செலவுகளை கட்டுப்படுத்தின. ஆதலால், அவர்களின் லாபம் கூடியது. விற்பனைகள் குறைந்த போதும் லாபம் கூடியது.



திரும்பி வந்த பங்குச் சந்தை நஷ்டங்கள்:பங்குச் சந்தையில் ஏற்பட்ட நஷ்டங்களை பலர் ஒரு வருடத்தில் திரும்பப் பெற முடிந்தது மிகவும் ஒரு ஆச்சரியமான விஷயம் தான். இதற்கு முந்தைய பொருளாதார நெருக்கடிகளில், அதாவது, 1987ம் ஆண்டு முதலீட்டாளர்கள், தாங்கள் இழந்தவற்றை திரும்பப்பெற இரண்டு வருடங்கள் காத்திருக்க வேண்டியிருந்தது. 1973ம் ஆண்டு ஏற்பட்ட நெருக்கடியில் முதலீட்டாளர்கள் மூன்று வருடங்கள் காத்திருக்க வேண்டியிருந்தது.ஆனால், 1929ம் ஆண்டு ஏற்பட்ட "கிரேட் டிப்ரஷன்' (பண வாட்டம்) இழந்தவற்றை திரும்பப் பெற 25 ஆண்டுகள் காத்திருக்க வேண்டியிருந்தது. அப்படி பார்க்கும் போது இந்த முறை உலக நாடுகள் மீண்டெழுந்தது ஒரு வருடத்திற்குள். ஆதலால், இந்த மீண்டெழுச்சியை பீனிக்ஸ் பறவை சாம்பலிலிருந்து உயிர்த்தெழுந்ததற்கு இணையாக ஒப்பிடுகின்றனர்.





இந்தியா ஏன் அதிகம் பாதிக்கப்படவில்லை?கடந்த ஆண்டு பொருளாதார சீர்குலைவோ அல்லது அதற்கு முன் ஏற்பட்ட ஆசிய பொருளாதார வீழ்ச்சியோ இந்தியாவை அதிகம் பாதிக்கவில்லை. காரணம், திறமையான நிர்வாகம். மேலும், உலகத்தின் பல பாகங்களிலும் நடைமுறைப்படுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளதைப் போல, பொருளாதார சீர்திருத்தங்களை பெரிய அளவில் இங்கு கொண்டு வராதது தான்.





உலகமெங்கும் வங்கிகளின் நிலைமை:உலகமெங்கும் வங்கிகள் இன்னும் மூழ்கிக் கொண்டிருக்கின்றன. அமெரிக்காவில் மட்டும் கடந்த ஆண்டு 25 வங்கிகளும், இந்த ஆண்டு 75 வங்கிகளுக்கும் மேல் மூழ்கி விட்டன. இந்திய வங்கிகள் நல்ல நிலையிலேயே இருக்கின்றன.இந்தியாவில் வங்கிகள் சமீபகாலத்தில் மூழ்கியதாக சரித்திரமே இல்லை. அப்படி மூழ்கும் நிலை வந்தாலும் அந்த வங்கியை நல்ல நிலையில் இருக்கும் வங்கியோடு இணைத்து, முதலீட்டாளர்களின் பணத்திற்கு உத்தரவாதம் அளிக்கப்பட்டு வந்திருக்கிறது. உதாரணம் நியூ பாங்க் ஆப் இந்தியா வங்கி, பஞ்சாப் நேஷனல் வங்கியுடன் இணைக்கப் பட்டது. தனியார் வங்கியான குளோபல் டிரஸ்ட் வங்கி, ஓரியண்டல் பாங்க் ஆப் காமர்சுடன் இணைக்கப்பட்டது. மகாராஷ்டிராவின் சாங்கில் வங்கி, ஐ.சி.ஐ.சி.ஐ., வங்கியுடன் இணைக்கப்பட்டது.இந்திய வங்கிகளில், தனி நபர் ஒருவருக்கு, ஒரு வங்கியில் ஒரு லட்சம் ரூபாய் வரை தான் பணத்திற்கு காப்பீடு இருக்கிறது. ஏனெனில், வங்கிகளுக்கு ஏதாவது ஆகும் பட்சத்தில் அங்கு நீங்கள் ஒரு லட்சம் ரூபாய்க்கு மேல் போட்டிருந்தால் அந்த வங்கியை வேறு வங்கியுடன் இணைக்காத பட்சத்தில் ஒரு லட்சம் ரூபாய் வரை தான் திருப்ப கிடைக்கும். ஆனால், அது போல சந்தர்ப்பங்கள் சமீப காலங்களில் ஏற்படவேயில்லை என்பதால் பயம் ஏதும் தேவையில்லை.





இந்த நிகழ்வுகளில் கற்றுக் கொண்டது என்ன?சேமிப்பின் அவசியத்தைக் கற்றுக் கொண்டோம். சேமிக்காதவர்களுக்கு இது ஒரு பாடமாக இருந்தது. எல்லா சேமிப்பையும் ஒரே முதலீட்டில் போடக் கூடாது என்பதையும் கற்றுக் கொண்டோம்.ஆண்டாண்டு காலமாக தங்கம், வெள்ளியில் சேமித்து வந்திருக்கிறோம், அது எவ்வளவு உன்னதமானது என்று உலகத்திற்கு நாம் எடுத்துக் காட்டினோம். உலகமும் நம்மை பின்பற்றத் தொடங்கியது. ஆதலால், தங்கம், வெள்ளி தொடமுடியாத அளவிற்கு சென்று விட்டது.





துபாயில் என்ன நடந்தது?துபாய் அரசுக்கு சொந்தமான "துபாய் வேர்ல்ட்' என்ற நிறுவனம் தனது கட்டுமானப் பணிகளுக்காக பல நிறுவனங்களிடமிருந்து கடன்கள், வேலைகளை வாங்கியிருந்தது. அதில் 80 பில்லியன் டாலர் (3,70,000 கோடி) அளவு கடன்களை செலுத்த முடியாததால் அதை செலுத்துவதற்கு இன்னும் ஆறு மாத தவணை வேண்டும் என்ற கேட்டது உலகையை உலுக்கியது.ஏனெனில், உலகின் மிகவும் பணக்கார நாடுகளில் ஒன்றாக கருதப்பட்டது அரபு நாடுகள் தான். உலகின் பெரிய நாடுகளே தங்களுக்கு பிரச்னை ஏற்படும் போது அரபு நாடுகளை நாடுவது வழக்கம் (சிட்டி வங்கி தனக்கு பிரச்னை ஏற்பட்ட போது அரபு நாடுகளைத் தான் நாடியது). அவர்களுக்கே பிரச்னை என்றால் எங்கு செல்வார்கள்? அரசு வாங்கிய கடனை திருப்பி செலுத்த முடியாமல் போனது உலகை ஒரு உலுக்கு உலுக்கியது. அதாவது தனி நபரோ அல்லது கம்பெனியோ கடன் வாங்கி கொடுக்க முடியாமல் போயிருந்தால் அது வேறு விஷயம். ஆனால், கடன் வாங்கியதோ துபாய் அரசு. அவர்களே கொடுக்க முடியாமல் போனால்?



துபாய் திரும்ப எழுமா?துபாய், உலகத்தின் வர்த்தக மையமாகவும் திகழ்கிறது. ஆதலால், துபாயின் பிரச்னையின் அளவு 80 பில்லியன் டாலர் என்றால், அதை தீர்ப்பது அவர்களுக்கு அவ்வளவு கடினமான காரியம் இல்லை. ஆனால், பிரச்னை இதை விட பெரிது என்றால், அது இந்தியாவை சிறிது பாதிக்கும் என்பதில் ஐயமில்லை.ஏனெனில், தற்போதே அங்கு கட்டட விலை மிகவும் குறைந்து விட்டது. இது தவிர வங்கிகள் இனி வீடுகள் வாங்கக் கடன் கொடுக்குமா என்பது யோசிக்க வேண்டும். ஆதலால், கட்டுமானப் பணிகள் குறையும் பட்சத்தில் அங்கு வேலை செய்யும் பல ஆயிரக்கணக்கான மக்கள் வேலை இழக்கும் அபாயம் உள்ளது.துபாயும் மற்ற நாடுகளைப் போல செலவுகளை குறைக்க முயற்சிக்கும். தற்போது துபாய் போன்ற நாடுகளில் அமெரிக்க, ஐரோப்பிய நாடுகளைச் சேர்ந்தவர்களை தலைமைப் பதவிக்கு அமர்த்தி அழகு பார்ப்பதும் அவர்களுக்கு அளவுக்கு அதிகமாக சம்பளம் கொடுப்பதும் வாடிக்கை தான். இனிமேல் அது போன்ற பதவிகள் இந்தியர்களுக்கு கிடைக்கும் வாய்ப்புகள் உள்ளன.

 Dear friends, when I see you all, I see in you great doctors, great engineers, great social workers, great teachers, great judges, great political leaders, even I see some of you may have an opportunity to reach and live in Mars. Let me share with you, what are the traits needed to accomplish these goals based on my experience.

I have seen three dreams which have taken shape as vision, mission and realization. Firstly, space programme of ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation), AGNI programme of DRDO

(Defense Research and Development Organisation) and PURA (Providing Urban Amenities in Rural Areas) becoming the National Mission. Of course these three programmes succeeded in the midst of many challenges and problems. I have worked in these areas. I want to convey to you what I have learnt from these three programmes based on my personal experience.

Wherever there is a dream in life, that transforms into a vision and vision takes shape as many missions.

The necessity of high level thinking to transform the vision into missions.

Acquisition of knowledge from all sources.

Working and working without boundary conditions till the realization of the missions.

Leader absorbs the failure and takes the responsibility and gives the credit for success to his team while executing the Missions.

 The experience that I have discussed with you friends, has given me few verses for you to remember in your life.

Nothing can be and can not be one and at the same time and I am, I am Pranav Mistry.


Currently, I am a Research Assistant and PhD candidate at the MIT Media Lab. Before joining MIT I worked as a UX Researcher with Microsoft. I received my Master in Media Arts and Sciences from MIT and Master of Design from IIT Bombay. I have completed my bachelors degree in Computer Science and Engineering. Palanpur is my hometown, which is situated in northern Gujarat in India.


Exposure to fields like Design to Technology and from Art to Psychology gave me a quite nice/interesting viewpoint to the world. I love to see technology from design perspective and vice versa. This vision reflects in almost all of my projects and research work as well. in short, I do what I love and I love what I do. I am a 'Desigineer' :)
