Working or Serving?

I am sure the one page reading below will make some difference in your mind set........

One evening a scholar was addressing the participants on the concept of work culture.

One of the participants asked the following question:

"I am a senior manager of Materials Department and I joined an

organization 25 years ago as an Engineer Trainee and over the last 25 years I have gone through every experience in the organization.

During the initial part of my career, the job was very challenging and interesting.

However, all those exciting days are gone since I do not find my joy any more interesting because there is nothing new in my job. I am now feeling bored because I am doing a routine job.

However, Sir, I am living in the same house for over forty years, I am the son for the same parents for over forty five years, I am the father for the same children for the past ten years and the husband for the same lady for the past twenty years! (the toughest job!)

In these personal roles I do not feel bored Please tell me why I am bored of the routine in the office and not in the house?"

The response from Scholar was very interesting and convincing. He asked the executive the question: "Please tell me for whom does your Mother cook?"

The executive replied that obviously the mother cooks for others.

Then the Scholar said that the mother "Serves" others and because of this service mindedness, she is not feeling tired or bored. But in an office,

we "Work" and not "Serve". Anything we consider, as service will

not make us feel bored. That is difference between Serving and Working.

He asked the executive to consider his work as service and not merely a work!!

This was a very interesting analysis!! Whenever you put a larger

context around your work and see a broader meaning for your work, you will take interest in your work and it will make a very big difference in your internal energy.

Attitude Matters!!!

If you think you are working for the organization you will get frustrated. If you feel you are doing a service and getting some service

charges you will feel happy. After all -doing what you like is freedom but liking what you do is happiness! It is just a paradigm shift that is required!

Ø பணத்திற்காக ஒரு பெண்ணைத் திருமணம் செய்து கொள்ள வேண்டாம். பணம் குறைந்த வட்டிக்கு வெளியே கிடைக்கும் - ஸ்காட்லாந்து பொன்மொழி Ø துன்பம் துன்பம் என்று சலித்துக் கொண்டு என்ன பயன்? உடம்பிலிருக்கும் ஒன்பது ஓட்டைகளோடு அதுவும் பத்தாவது ஓட்டை என்று முடிவு கட்டு : வாழ்வுக்கு நியாமும், நெஞ்சிற்கு நிம்மதியும் கிடைக்கும். - கவியரசு கண்ணதாசன் Ø உழைப்பு வறுமையை மட்டும் விரட்டவில்லை; தீமையையும் விரட்டுகிறது. - வால்டேர் Ø அழகான பெண், கண்களுக்கு ஆனந்தமளிக்கிறாள். குணமான பெண் இதயத்திற்கு குதூகலமளிக்கிறாள். முதலாமவள் ஒரு ஆபரணம், இரண்டாமவள் ஒரு புதையல் - நெப்போலியன் Ø ஒரு தாய் தன் மகனை மனிதனாக்க இருபது வருடங்களாகிறது. அவனை மற்றொரு பெண் இருபதே நிமிடங்களில் முட்டாளாக்கிவிடுகிறாள். - ஆஸ்கார் ஒயில்ட் Ø பெண்களில் இரண்டே பிரிவினர் தாம் இருக்கிறார்கள். ஒன்று அழகானவர்கள். மற்றொன்று அழகானவர்கள் என்று நம்பிக் கொண்டிருப்பவர்கள் - பெர்னாட்ஷா Ø ஒரு தகப்பனார் பத்துக் குழந்தைகளைக் காப்பாற்றலாம். ஆனால் பத்துக் குழந்தைகள் ஒரு தகப்பனாரைக் காப்பாற்றும் என்று உறுதியாகச் சொல்ல முடியாது. - ப்ரெட்ரிக் நீட்சே Ø நீங்கள் போருக்குச் செல்லும்போது ஒரு தடவை பிரார்த்தனை செய்யுங்கள். கடல் பயணத்திற்குச் செல்லும்போது இரண்டு தடவை பிரார்த்தனை செய்யுங்கள் ஒரு பெண்ணை மனைவியாக ஏற்கும் போது மூன்று தடவை பிரார்த்தனை செய்யுங்கள். - வின்ஸ்டர் லூயிஸ் Ø தெரிந்து மிதித்தாலும் தெரியாமல் மிதித்தாலும் மிதிபட்ட எறுப்பிற்கு இரண்டுமே ஒன்றுதான் Ø குத்து விளக்கு எவ்வளவு பிரகாசமாக எரிந்தாலும் அதன் அடியில் சற்று இருள் இருக்கத்தான் செய்யும் Ø சுயநலம் என்பது சிறு உலகம். அதில் ஒரே ஒரு மனிதன்தான் வாழ்கிறான் Ø வெற்றியின் ரகசியம் - எடுத்த காரியத்தில் நிலையாக இருத்தல் Ø பணம் இருந்தால் உன்னை உனக்குத் தெரியாது. பணம் இல்லாவிட்டால் யாருக்கும் உன்னைத் தெரியாது. Ø மது உள்ளே சென்றால் அறிவு வெளி செல்கிறது Ø  நண்பனைப் பற்றி நல்லது பேசு. விரோதியைப் பற்றி ஒன்றும் பேசாதே! Ø அதிர்ஷ்டத்திற்காகக் காத்திருப்பதும் சாவுக்காக் காத்திருப்பதும் ஒன்றே! Ø செல்வம் என்பது பணம் மட்டும்தான் என்பது இல்லை Ø நாக்கு கொடிய மிருகம். அதை எப்போதும் கட்டியே வை! Ø பறக்க விரும்புபவனால் படர முடியாது. Ø மகிழ்ச்சியான வாழ்க்கை என்பது தடைகளற்ற வாழ்க்கை அல்ல, தடைகளை வெற்றி கொண்டு வாழும் வாழ்க்கை. Ø ஒரு கதவு மூடப்படும் போது மற்றொரு கதவு திறக்கிறது. ஆனால், நாம் மூடப்பட்ட கதவையே பார்த்துக்கொண்டு திறக்கப்படும் கதவை தவறவிடுகிறோம்.

If we are lucky, we may last another 50 years. And 50 years is just 2,500 weekends. Do we really need to get so worked up? …………….


It's ok, bunk a few classes, scoring low in couple of papers, goof up a few interviews, take leave from work, fall in love, little fights with your spouse. We are people, not programmed devices........." smile

Mission in life :
 Dear friends, when I see you all, I see in you great doctors, great engineers, great social workers, great teachers, great judges, great political leaders, even I see some of you may have an opportunity to reach and live in Mars. Let me share with you, what are the traits needed to accomplish these goals based on my experience.

I have seen three dreams which have taken shape as vision, mission and realization. Firstly, space programme of ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation), AGNI programme of DRDO

(Defense Research and Development Organisation) and PURA (Providing Urban Amenities in Rural Areas) becoming the National Mission. Of course these three programmes succeeded in the midst of many challenges and problems. I have worked in these areas. I want to convey to you what I have learnt from these three programmes based on my personal experience.

Wherever there is a dream in life, that transforms into a vision and vision takes shape as many missions.

The necessity of high level thinking to transform the vision into missions.

Acquisition of knowledge from all sources.

Working and working without boundary conditions till the realization of the missions.

Leader absorbs the failure and takes the responsibility and gives the credit for success to his team while executing the Missions.

 The experience that I have discussed with you friends, has given me few verses for you to remember in your life.

 Mission in Life :  

• I am great in thinking and in action.
• I firmly believe that I can do any mission.
• I will dream to live even in Mars.
• It doesnot matter who I am
• I will work, work and work,
• All the forces of the universe will also assist me,
• I will achieve what I dream,
• I will also reach any part of our Galaxy.
