POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Looking for an architect to help lead the Big Data Movement in Education. The client is the leading provider of educational platforms, which gives it a unique position to unleash Big Data in in our market.
We are looking for a Big Data Architect who is trained or has extensive experience describing the structure and behavior of a big data solution and how that solution can be delivered using big data technologies such as Hadoop. Must have hands on experience with at least one big data technology and knows how to administer, configure, monitor, debug and tune a big data solution. The architect will be responsible for overseeing the full life-cycle of the client's big data solutions from requirements analysis, platform selection, design and technical architecture, development, testing, deployment, and monitoring of proposed solution.
A Big Data Architect should have a many years (10-15+) experience gained in normal solutions architecture before making the move to big data solutions.
Skills that are important include:
Ø To be able to benchmark systems, analyze system bottlenecks and propose solutions to eliminate them;
Ø To be able to clearly articulate pros and cons of various technologies and platforms;
Ø To be able to document use cases, solutions and recommendations;
Ø To have excellent written and verbal communication skills;
Ø To be able to explain the work in plain language;
Ø To be able to help program and project managers in the design, planning and governance of implementing projects of any kind;
Ø To be able to perform detailed analysis of business problems and technical environments and use this in designing the solution;
Ø To be able to work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment;
Ø To be a self-starter;
Ø To be able to work in teams, as a big data environment is developed in a team of employees with different disciplines;
Ø To be able to work in a fast-paced agile development environment.
Ø Experience with a range of big data architectures including OpenStack, Hadoop, Pig, Hive, or other big data frameworks.
