Job Description: Sr. Network Engineer Job Purpose: The primary role for the Sr. Network Engineer is to lead the designing, setup, and configuring networks, and continuously monitors and enhances the performance of these networks, whether it’s a wired or wireless network; with the goal of maintaining a stable, successful IT network environment at Rawabi. Principal Accountabilities: Designs, architects and provides support of Routers, Switches, Security Solutions, VPNs, Load Balancers, and Network Management Solutions across LAN/WAN. • Installs, configures, maintains, supports, and secures Rawabi’s network, including hardware resources and network applications, to ensure that the network is reliable and that the IT resources are used efficiently. • Troubleshoots problems with networks and security infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, VPN, proxy servers and make corrective actions when necessary. • Provides recommendations on architectural changes and design enhancements to the infrastructure to improve reliably and performance, reduce cost, and anticipate company growth and acquisition. • Ensures an uninterrupted operation of Rawabi’s IT network, including LAN, intranet, internet, and any connections from one business unit to another or to the head office. • Monitors network performance; identifies, troubleshoots, investigates, and resolves technical problems in order to maintain a reliable network. • Manages firewalls and ACLs. • Assists with the planning, design, research and acquisition of new or upgraded hardware and software systems; maintains current knowledge of hardware, software and network technology and recommends modifications as necessary to the Infrastructure Unit Head. • Undertaking routine preventative measures and implementing, maintaining and monitoring network security, particularly if the network connects to the internet • New installation, configuration and maintaining of DNS servers. • New installation, configuration and maintaining of Door access devices and server room Security Cameras. • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation and diagrams for all implemented networks. • Evaluate, test, and deploy all software and hardware upgrades to the network infrastructure. • Apply and manage deployment for network devices’ firmware patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities after receiving the proper approval from the Unit Head. • Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning. • Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions. • Maintain data center environmental and monitoring equipment. • Provides 24/7 on-call emergency support for the network environment, and Participates in weekend maintenance activities, as required. • Ensures all network devices licensing is appropriately managed and anticipated. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of emerging network management tools and technologies. Assess the impact of network devices and/or network configurations changes prior to their implementation, minimizing downtime and working with colleagues where appropriate. Communications and Working Relationships Reports directly to the Infrastructure Unit Head. • Interpret and/or discuss information with others, which involves terminology or concepts not familiar to many people; regularly provide advice and recommend actions involving rather complex issues. • Providing training and technical support for users with varying levels of IT knowledge and competence. • Experience generating documentation for peers and NOC staff. • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Infrastructure Unit Head and / or Group IT Manager. • Work closely with the different IT teams to provide end-user support and issue resolution. • Ability to work as a team to meet the requirements of the business across organizational lines. • Act as a self starter with good interpersonal skills who can work well with management, peers, or end-users. Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Qualifications • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science/MIS or related area – Or 2 to 3 years IT Diploma with minimum 6 years of experience with networks design, support and troubleshoot. • 6+ years of working in and on a Cisco based Network. • Experience with Cisco, 3Com, Juniper, HP, Riverbed, and other major network devices. • In-depth routing protocols experience – BGP, OSPF, HSRP, VRRP, MPLS. • Experience with reporting protocols and tools – netflow, sflow, ntop, splunk, etc. • Troubleshooting skills with the following: o Cisco Devices (LAN, WAN, and Security) – Switches, Routers, Firewalls, IDS/IPS. o Network management tools. o Sniffers and Protocol Analysis. o Proxy servers, VPN connectivity. o Wireless connectivity and security. o VLANs, VTP, PBR, IPv6. • Understands the issues involved with administering and maintaining corporate infrastructure, including network connectivity, Internet access, email, etc. • Understands the issues involved in administering and maintaining corporate WAN. • Assists with the administration and maintenance of the telephone system, including telephone switches. • Assists with the creation of new hire telephone and voicemail extensions, routing extensions to appropriate locations and updating information as employee seating area change. • Experience in VoIP and VTCoIP deployments is a strong plus • Minimum Certification is CCNA; CCNP certification must be obtained within 6 months of joining Rawabi. • Knowledge of Quality of Service, IPSec, Multicast and load balancing techniques are also essential. • Strong technical aptitude and ability to research & solve complex issues independently. • Fluent in English – Arabic language fluency is a plus.
