The IP Backbone Implementation Engineer is accountable for the support of clients National Backbone and the Services that are delivered via the Backbone. The IP Backbone supports services such as Voice over IP, Broadcast Video; MPLS layer 2 and layer 3 VPN, SS7.  Backbone Implementation Engineers are proactive, problem solvers using analytical, process-oriented troubleshooting to maintain strict network reliability SLAs.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Perform maintenance activity related to the turn-up of new services or technology.

2. Develop process and procedures for the support of the network and interaction with other support groups.

3. Work with vendors to isolate issues related to a given platform.

4. Support client Network Operations Center and system engineers with issues escalated to Backbone Operations.

5. Identify operational and design issues through data analysis and recommended solutions to make the network more efficient.

6. Works with other groups on the implementation of network related projects and other standardization efforts

7. Participate or lead projects related to the National Backbone. This includes writing procedures, maintenance coordination and operational documentation.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum

1. 5+ years of experience required in related field (IP Backbone, Backbone Infrastructure).

2. Minimum 5 years of experience troubleshooting OSPF, BGP and MPLS.

4. Minimum 5 years of experience troubleshooting Layer 2 switching and VLANs.

6. Minimum 3 years of experience with high end Juniper routers such as MX960, T-640 and M320.

7. Minimum 3 years of performing maintenance activity to related protocols or technologies listed above.

 

Preferred

1. BS/BA in related discipline strongly preferred (i.e. IT, Engineering, CIS). 

2. Experience in telecommunications industry desired.

3. Prefer certification in JNCIS or higher Juniper certification.
