Network Engineer:
This position is for a Network Engineer to support worldwide MSIT network engineering within Network Design, Deployment and Services in the Infrastructure Collaboration Services organization.
The individual in this role will be responsible for supporting MSIT"s infrastructure, with a focus on the supporting MSIT core infrastructure which includes supporting environment that comprises of Cisco network and equipment along with Aruba gear. Are you enthusiastic about looking into complex issues with multiple dependencies and driving them towards resolution? Are you ready to work collaboratively to deliver/release new technologies? Willing to work night shifts? Are you ready to drive vision and strategy for networking infrastructure for Microsoft globally?
This person must have rock solid routing and switching skills along with good understanding of firewalls. This individual will be part of a team responsible for Tier III escalation for network issues, network trend analysis, process improvement, release documentation, training Tier II & Tier I - and providing proactive network remediation using the tools and techniques available. The role also includes support for standards development and problem management. This role requires collaboration with architecture, engineering and implementation teams across the company to deliver new hardware, services and network technologies. The Ability to automate/script network deployments will definitely be a plus. For this position, candidates with below additional capabilities and skillsets would be in key consideration for the position as the position has potential to grow into a technical leadership roleand the candidate will play a key role in the formation of long term strategies and vision for, and the implementation/trouble shooting on the complex networking environment for Microsoft.
* Ability to coordinate the Microsoft Network Infrastructure strategic direction with multiple groups including, Systems, Security, and other MS product groups (India and outside). A Demonstrated experience in similarity would be an added advantage
* The candidate will also be responsible for ensuring network compliance with all applicable laws, rules, tariffs as well as such items as Sarbanes Oxley.
* The position will require a candidate to collaborate with internal and external groups both with regard to network infrastructure required for day-to-day support and on future vision, providing inputs into selecting cost effective network solutions to meet business requirements.
* In-depth knowledge of Network technologies, how they came to be, and how they are evolving, both in the industry and within Microsoft. Candidate must be thoroughly knowledgeable of future IT and networking trends in multiple areas, such as IPV6, data and telephone convergence, security, network virtualization, WAN routing, Switching, datacenter networking, disaster recovery, SAN, network tooling and WLAN.
* The candidate should be familiar with the strengths and weaknesses of industry network equipment and network service providers.
* Must possess the competencies and skills to present to multiple audiences including; external customers, upper management, and peers on networking strategies and futures. Hence must have strong communication and presentations skills.
Core requirements of the position:
* Taking Tier 3 escalations and working break fix incidents, Major Incidents
Network Trend Analysis
* Problem Trend analysis and remediation
* Proactive Network Remediation
* Collaboration with Network Engineering and Architecture for release of new technologies
* Writing Troubleshooting guides and training Tier 2 & Tier 1. on various networking technologies
Perform Network traffic analysis and alleviate bottlenecks
* Maintaining network compliance with SOX/PCI requirements as well as auditing the network for adherence to engineering standards
* Experiences and competencies in people management, mentoring and coaching and being a trusted advisor to other members in the team would an added plus.
Qualifications:
* A BS degree in Computer Science (or equivalent work experience) and a minimum of 7 years demonstrated and relevant work in field
* Minimum 4 years direct experience with Cisco switches, routers & firewalls.
* Strong technical knowledge of enterprise networking solutions for very large enterprises
* Ability to troubleshoot complex network issues in enterprise environments
* Excellent knowledge of TCP/IP routing protocols including OSPF and BGP
* Expertise in MPLS Technologies Firewalls, load balancing technologies
* Strong knowledge of TCP/IP protocols including SNMP, RMON, IPSEC, HTTP, and HTTPS
* Excellent verbal communications and writing skills
* Ability to provide mentorship to technical Implementation and Operations teams
* Experience with Network Management procedures and tools
