Offshore Location: Bengaluru, KA, India
Onsite Location: Sunnyvale, CA, USA

Job responsibilities
- Administer complex Unix-based systems in a multi-tiered architecture, generally from the operating system or application level and up.
- Assist with debugging of issues in both the production environment as well as the staging environment.
- Work closely with the Dev/QA team on new projects/requirements to ensure changes are sound and maintainable in production.
- Be part of Mobile SE team helping with production launches as well as code pushes.
- Take on-call rotations.
- Be able to communicate issues and resolutions to a wide audience.
- Ensure that issues are dealt with in a timely fashion, and work to ensure that they only happen once.
- Operate in a team spread out across the globe.

Job requirements
- Preference for and experience working with Unix-based servers and open source software; we use FreeBSD, Linux, Apache, PHP, Nagios and MySQL (among other things), and the ideal candidate should be comfortable with all of these technologies.
- Ability to debug issues on a UNIX environment in a multi-tiered architecture.
- Understanding of common internet protocols (HTTP, HTTPS, SSH, etc...) and ways to troubleshoot these.
- Understanding of common network technologies (Akamai, VIPs, GSLB, etc...).
- Understanding of redundancy and reliability and ways to achieve these.
- Ability to work with multiple teams simultaneously with multiple requirements.
- Thorough understanding of the software development life-cycle.
- Good documentation and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment independently and meet deadlines.
- Attention to details.
- Desire to work as a part of a team; strong interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities
- Function as a technical generalist responsible for the overall health and performance of our search and ad serving platforms.
- Develop tools to automate the deployment, administration, and monitoring of a large-scale Linux environment.
- Gain deep application-level knowledge of the systems as well as contributing to their overall design.
- Work with development teams to harden, enhance, document, and generally improve the operability of our systems.
- Assist in the configuration/build-out of new deployments to facilitate our constant growth.
- Participate in a 12x7 (daylight hours) on-call pager rotation.

Minimum Job Qualifications
- Extensive system administration background.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills, including application and network-level troubleshooting ability.
- Strong programming skills in one or more of: C, Perl, Python, Ruby.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience working with development teams.

Preferred Job Qualifications
- 5+ years experience with Linux (RHEL a plus).
- 5+ years experience administering large-scale UNIX installations (ISP backgrounds a plus).
- Experience with SQL and commonly deployed database systems.
- BS Computer Science.
